How to Configure mIRC
Step 1. Finding and installing mIRC.
- You can find mIRC at http://www.tucows.com
or http://www.shareware.com
- If you go to the TUCOWS Site, choose a location closest to you. Once you
have reached TUCOWS, click on the operating system you have, Macintosh, or
WindowsXX.
- You will see a table of different types of Internet Software - Click on
Text Chat (IRC) and then click on mIRC. You will be prompted to save
the file. Select a directory on your hard disk where you can find it
later.
- Once it is downloaded go into File Manager or Windows Explorer and locate
the mIRC file and double click on it.
- 5. The mIRC file will automatically install into C:\mirc.
Step 2. Starting and setting up mIRC
- Click on the mIRC icon.
- In the Setup Dialog window enter the following information in the
following fields
Real Name: Your real name (you may also use a fake name if you like)
E-Mail: Your e-mail address (i.e.: username@ecpi.com)
Nick Name: A one to nine character alias to use on the chat system (ie, Ast_Isis)
Alternate: This name will be used in the event your first choice is
already taken by someone else.
- Click on add (this will add the Undernet IRC server to your listings.)
- Enter this information in this dialog box.
Description: Undernet
IRC Server: us.undernet.org
Ports: 6667
Click on ADD
Step 3: Using mIRC
- Highlight Undernet and select connect.
- To join a conversation, type the /join {channel_name} command in the
single line box at the bottom of the Status window.
- Popular channels are #42plus, #friendly, #mirc, #teen, #hottub, #usa, well
there are thousands.
- To get a listing of all available channels you might try the /list
command.
- When you join a channel, a new window will appear on your screen.
