SETTING UP THE DIAL-UP ADAPTER

1. Adding a new connection

  • Double click on My Computer on the desktop.

  • Double click on Dial-Up Networking.

  • Double click on Make New Connection.

 

  • In Type a name for the computer you are dialing enter ECPI.

 

  • For Select a modem select the modem you will use to dial with, and click on Next.

  • In Telephone number type in 646-3274, and click on Next unless you have a 56k modem, in which case you should type in 647-4736, and click on Next.

  • Click on Finish.


2. Setting connection properties

  • From My Computer, open the Dial-Up Networking window.

  • From the Connections drop-down menu, click Settings.

  • Select Prompt for Information Before Dialing.

  • Click OK.

  • Inside the Dial-up Networking window, there will be an icon labeled ECPI.
    This is the connection you created earlier.

  • Click on the ECPI connect Icon.

  • From the File drop-down menu, select Properties.

  • Click on the Server Type button.

  • Type of Dial-Up Server should be set to PPP, Windows 95; Windows NT 3.5 Internet.

  • Advanced Options should have Log On To Network and Enable Software Compression checked.

  • Allowed Network Protocols should only have TCP/IP checked.

  • Click on TCP/IP Settings.

  • Select Server assigned IP address
  • Select Specify name server address
    • For Primary DNS type in 216.141.24.3
    • For Secondary DNS type in 216.141.24.2
  •  Check Use IP header compression, and Use default gateway on remote network.

  • Click OK.

  • Under the General tab, click on Configure.

  • For Maximum speed, select the next highest speed than the speed of your
    modem. This will ensure optimal operation.

  • Select the Connection tab.

  • Set Data bits to 8, Parity to None, and Stop bits to 1.

  • Click on Advanced.

  • Select Use error control and Compress data.

  • Select Use flow control, and select Hardware (RTS/CTS).
    Not all modems use the above settings, but most do. If you're unsure,
    check your modem installation guide or owner's manual.

  • Click OK

  • Select the Options tab.

  • Only Display modem status should be checked.

  • Click OK and then Click OK again to complete your setup.
