Windows 98 Connection Wizard Setup for ECPI

Before you begin

• This guide is intended for the retail version of Windows 98.
• This guide assumes that your modem is properly installed in Windows 98.
• In some Windows 98 dialog boxes, there are more options than those specified; leave other options set at their default values.

1. Click on the Windows 98 Start button, select Programs, then select Internet Explorer, and then click Connection Wizard.
   • NOTE:  If you do not see the Connection Wizard, then do the following:
     • Click on My Computer
     • Click on Control Panel
     • Click on Internet Options
     • Click on Connections tab
     • Click on Setup
2. If you have 2 options, select the second option: "I have an existing Internet account..." 
   • If you have 3 options, CLICK HERE to continue setup instructions.
3. Click Next.
4. Select the first option: "Select this option if you are accessing..."
5. Click Next.
6. Under "Which method do you want...", select "Connect using my phone line."
7. Click Next.
8. If ECPI has an icon in the list of connections shown, select Use an existing dial-up connection, then highlight ECPI, select Next, and go to step 9. If there is no ECPI icon shown, select "Create a new dial-up connection...", click Next, and go to step 10.
9. In the next window, select No to keep the present settings for your connection to ECPI, click Next, and skip ahead to step 18.
10. Enter your local dial-up number (type in 646-3274, and click on Next unless you have a 56k modem, in which case you should type in 647-4736). After entering the dial-up number, click Next.
11. Enter your username and password in their respective boxes. Remember to use lowercase letters and numbers only. After entering your information, click Next.
12. In the next window, select Yes to change Advanced Settings, and click Next.
13. Make sure PPP is selected, and click Next.
14. Select "I don't need to type anything...", and click Next.
15. In the IP addressing window, select "My ISP automatically assigns me one", and click Next.
16. In the DNS servers window, select "Always use the following". For Primary DNS, enter the following set of numbers: 216.141.24.3 For Secondary DNS, enter the following set of numbers: 216.141.24.2 then click Next.
17. In the Connect name box, enter ECPI, and click Next.
18. Select No when prompted to set up your email account
    • To use the Web Mail system, CLICK HERE.
    • If you wish to use Outlook Express, CLICK HERE for set up instructions.  If you would like to use Netscape, CLICK HERE for set up instructions.
19. Click Next.
20. Select No when prompted to set up your news account.

     

21. Select No when prompted to set up your Internet directory. You may set up your directory if desired after this configuration wizard is completed. Click Next.
22. Click Finish to complete the Wizard.
